ABOUT THE ARTIST
Having explored various media since her studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Czech artist Sofie Švejdová now focuses on painting. Precedent to her current abstract and expressive paintings are the series of canvases and objects based on reflection of the television series phenomenon untangling their psychological patterns. Another source of Sofie‘s artistic present is represented by paintings with a poetically feminist touch, the most prominent of which is the letter „V“ with all the possible interpretations. Interconnecting frequently both the motifs, Sofie renegotiates the coordinates of visual fiction and deliberately selects objects whose real basis is improbable.
Her most recent abstract canvases are showing Sofie Švejdová in the role of a certain conductor working on the basis of several specific impulses around which she orchestrates a dynamic composition. Alongside the melodic lines, her paintings also feature powerful chords, in places reminiscent of Elegies by Robert Motherwell. Colour lines intertwine each other to create a new, deeper and less reachable spaces in layers of which something is constantly happening but we are not able to gain insight into it.
