ABOUT THE SHOW
The project Bohemian Forest at the JIRI SVESTKA GALLERY is a conscious pushing of the limits in both directions - between design and visual art. The installation of brass trees with leaves of glass has the character of a fairy-tale-like winter in the country. It creates a crossroads between various ways of perceiving art and overlaps the traditional undertaking of form, colour and space in the way of understanding design. Bohemian Forest is a visual installation, but it is also an ironic commentary on his own country, a nostalgic evaluation of its traditions, its isolating exclusion of outside influences, conservativism and destruction of the environment. Bohemian Forest is also an expression of joy resulting from creating, in which playing, exaggeration and a certain lightness has an important role.
Parallel to our exhibition, from December 10, 1997 until February 2, 1998, the first retrospective exhibition of Borek Sipek will be showing at the National Museum in Prague.
