ABOUT THE SHOW
The group of paintings, on the right wall of the gallery stage, are entitled Souvenirs. They are memories of empty, seemingly unoccupied spaces of pictorial reality. By concentrating on each isolated fragment Jäger is able to fulfil this emptiness.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Michael Jäger (born 1956 in Düsseldorf, lives in Freiburg in South Germany) belongs to those contemporary artists who consider renewing the prestige of the painting genre. In this context you could also nominate Juan Uslé from Spain and David Reed from the USA.
Jäger´s paintings are not large in scale, made of lacquer on plexi-glass, unexpected formal connections appear, as if they are emerging from the endlessness of possibilities. The works entitled Gemenge, in the large space of the gallery, are composed of peripheral forms from other pictures, from the History of Art or from new electronic pictures. These peripheral parts bring their original contexts into the new painting and create a new/different visible reality.
The group of paintings, on the right wall of the gallery stage, are entitled Souvenirs. They are memories of empty, seemingly unoccupied spaces of pictorial reality. By concentrating on each isolated fragment Jäger is able to fulfil this emptiness.
Michael Jäger has had a series of exhibitions in institutions all over Western Europe and the USA. This is his first solo exhibition in the Czech Republic.
